“Package has unmet dependencies” on Debian or Ubuntu

JetBackup 5: “Package has unmet dependencies” on Debian or Ubuntu

This error occurs when APT cannot find the versions of jetmongod, jetrsync, or jetphp83 required by jetbackup5-base. The message “you have held broken packages” does not necessarily mean a package is on hold; APT may be missing an active JetApps repository, such as the jetapps-base repository.

Example error:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

jetbackup5-base : PreDepends: jetmongod (>= 8.0.29.0) but 8.0.23.0-201 is to be installed or
jetmongod-remote (>= 1.0.0) but it is not installable
PreDepends: jetrsync (>= 3.4.4.0) but 3.4.3.0-205 is to be installed
PreDepends: jetphp83 (>= 8.3.36.0) but 8.3.19.1-205 is to be installed

PreDepends: jetphp83-sqlite3 (>= 8.3.36.0) but 8.3.19.1-205 is to be installed
PreDepends: jetphp83-pdo-sqlite (>= 8.3.36.0) but 8.3.19.1-205 is to be installed

PreDepends: jetphp83-sockets (>= 8.3.36.0) but 8.3.19.1-205 is to be installed
PreDepends: jetphp83-pgsql (>= 8.3.36.0) but 8.3.19.1-205 is to be installed
PreDepends: jetphp83-filter (>= 8.3.36.0) but 8.3.19.1-205 is to be installed

Check the repositories

As root, run the below commands to check the repositories. In the 2nd command, the "Candidate" command shows whether apt detects a newer version than the installed package.

ls -l /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jetapps-*
apt-cache policy jetbackup5-base jetmongod jetrsync jetphp83 |grep -E -B1 -A2 'Installed|Candidate'

Confirm that /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jetapps-base.list exists and points to the server’s current OS release. Also check for JetApps files ending in .distUpgrade within the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ directory. APT ignores those repositories, so a base repository named jetapps-base.list.distUpgrade cannot provide the required packages.

Update manually from the RELEASE repository

If the base repository is active and this server uses the RELEASE tier, run:

Note: Replace "jetbackup5-cpanel" with the control panel you're using. ie, jetbackup5-directadmin, jetbackup5-plesk, etc.

(f=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/jetapps-release.list; [ ! -e "$f" ] && cp "$f.disabled" "$f" && trap 'rm -f "$f"' EXIT && apt-get -o APT::Update::Error-Mode=any update && apt-get install --only-upgrade jetbackup5-base jetbackup5-cpanel jetmongod)

This temporarily enables the RELEASE repository and removes the temporary .list file when the command exits. The command assumes the three packages are already installed.

If “Package jetmongod is not available” appears (or Package XYZ is not available)

Check again for jetapps-base.list.distUpgrade or other JetApps repository files with a .distUpgrade suffix. Reinstall the JetApps repository configuration using the commands below, then verify that jetapps-base.list exists and matches the server’s OS release:

bash <(curl -LSs https://repo.jetlicense.com/static/install)
apt-get update
jetapps -a

JetApps update logs are in /usr/local/jetapps/var/log/jetapps/
