What is backup on demand?

The Backup on Demand system is a feature in JetBackup 5 which helps you to generate backups whenever required (On-Demand) apart from the normally scheduled backup jobs which generate backups as per the set schedule.

To enable Backup on Demand first you need to choose the Full Account Backup Job that you want to use for backup on demand from the dropdown list Backup Job via JetBackup > Settings > Backup on demand > Backup Job.

You can choose the value from the Maximum Backups per Account option to retain the maximum number of backups allowed for each Account.

You can choose the value from the How Long Keep Snapshots option which will help to auto-remove the backups on-demand after the specified days.

The settings configured in the Backup on Demand tab are assigned to all accounts hosted in the server globally which need on-demand backups.

You can also set the maximum on-demand backups allowed to create for a particular account via JetBackup > Accounts > Select account > Modify Account > Max On Demand Backups. Here the default value assigned will be Use Global Settings, you can use a value, and based on this value the maximum number of on-demand backups can be taken for the particular account.

For creating an on-demand backup for an account, you need to click Create Backup On Demand via JetBackup > Accounts > Create Backup On Demand once the above-mentioned settings are configured.

Note:

  • Backup on Demand Generates a Full Account Backup for the account each time and is not Incremental.
  • The Backup on Demand Retention/TTL is separate from the Backup Retention set for Schedules.
